Reasons why kids lose baby teeth

Why kids lose baby teeth
Losing of teeth signifies a huge milestone in your youngster’s life. Baby teeth fall out and pave the way for the growing of permanent teeth. This growth is a process that goes on until wisdom teeth, final molars, are in. While some kids get excited to feel a tooth wriggle and maybe get a chance to visit a dentist, others worry the tooth will hurt when it falls out.
At what age do the teeth start to fall?
If you are asking this question, probably you are a first-time mom and haven’t experienced this. Kids more often than not begin losing their primary teeth, baby teeth, when they are between the ages of 6 to 7 years. This is when the jaws have developed to mature size. It is common for many parents to ask dentists or specialists this question, at what age do kids lose teeth? The response to this question varies from one child to another. This is because some kids may start at six and others seven years.
A baby’s 20 teeth usually come in by age three. But it is interesting to know that they also fall out, in the same way, they came in.  This only means, the first teeth to erupt will go first.
Why do kids lose their baby teeth?
If it were for adults, maybe you could be having several answers. But it is not different. Here are some reasons why kids lose their baby teeth:
  • The permanent tooth has fully grown: You child’s tooth will not loosen until the permanent tooth beneath forces it up to replace it. This is only means if you see your child’s tooth lose, just know that the permanent tooth is fully grown. It also indicates that the jaw and its muscles are mature and can support permanent teeth.
  • Dental disease:  Maybe you are asking if kids can lose teeth before permanent one erupt, yes they can. Dental disease is one of the reasons kids lose their baby teeth. Bacteria from gum disease and gingivitis cause the body to wipe out gum tissue and bone around the teeth causing them to hurt and become loose. This can be as a result of kids not brushing teeth or eating sugary products.
  • Accident: Whether you are stay-at-home mom or go to work, you cannot be with your baby all the time. And even if you are, accidents are unavoidable. Kids can get into an accident that may cause them to lose their baby teeth.
  • Tooth grinding: Almost all kids crush their teeth and the damage made may vary from one child to another leading to losing their baby teeth.
Conclusion

Although some children lose their teeth as early as four years, some do so as late as seven or eight years. But it is vital to consult a dentist if your child loses her baby teeth and she is below four years. Also, the younger your child was when the baby teeth erupted, the earlier they will fall out.  While there is nothing wrong with your child losing teeth as late as eight years, it is good to consult a dentist.
